The latest innovation from our Ecoline
range of alternative fuel and fuel-saving
technologies gives the Commodore
Series II even more power to reduce
your emissions while delivering
uncompromising Holden performance.
Because now – for the first time –
you have the flexibility to run your
Commodore on petrol or Bio-ethanol.
A clean burning, renewable energy
source that contains up to 85% ethanol,
Bio-ethanol not only shrinks emissions,
it actually enhances engine performance.
Both the 3.0 litre SIDI Direct Injection
V6 and Gen IV V8 powertrains are
Bio-ethanol compatible. The former
is one of the most technically advanced
6-cylinder engines to be manufactured
in Australia. Also available in a 3.6 litre
variant^, it lets you enjoy all the
advantages of a large car with fuel
economy normally seen on some
smaller cars.
In addition to its Bio-ethanol capability,
Holden’s famed 6.0 litre Gen IV features
Active Fuel Management (AFM) on
automatic transmission equipped SS,
SS V-Series and Calais V-Series models.
Switching automatically from eight to
four cylinder operation according to
driving conditions, it gives you full V8
performance when it’s needed, and
improved fuel economy when it’s not.
Your other option for lower fuel bills is
the 3.6 litre Dual Fuel LPG Alloytec V6^,
which also combines true Holden
performance with fuel running costs
comparable to many small cars.
Bio-ethanol
Bio-ethanol, also known as E85, can contain
up to 85% ethanol and 15% petrol.
Ethanol is currently derived from sorghum as
well as by-products linked to the agricultural
production of wheat and sugar.
During growth, plants absorb significant
amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere.
Engine combustion of Bio-ethanol effectively
‘recycles’ this CO2, making it available for
new crops to grow. As a result of this renewal
process, use of Bio-ethanol has the potential
to significantly reduce vehicle CO2 emissions
when compared to petrol.
Next generation production technology
promises even greater environmental benefit,
as it will derive ethanol directly from everyday
household rubbish, substantially reducing
landfill at the same time.
Bio-ethanol also increases vehicle
performance. Which is why you can now
take advantage of this increasingly popular
fuel in Commodore and Sportwagon models
powered by either the 3.0 litre SIDI Direct
Injection V6 or Gen IV V8 engines.
Dual Fuel LPG V6
Optional on the Commodore Omega and
Berlina Sedan, the Dual Fuel LPG Alloytec
V6 combines with a four-speed automatic
transmission to deliver significantly lower
fuel running costs and more kilometres
between fills.
Thanks to Holden’s Generation V sequential
vapour injection, which mimics the engine’s
petrol injection sequence, you can also look
forward to 175kW# of power at 6,500rpm
and 318Nm# of torque at 2,400rpm –
numbers that add up to genuine Commodore
performance.
SIDI Direct Injection V6
A breakthrough in V6 engine design,
Holden’s Spark Ignition Direct Injection
(SIDI) technology produces greater power
and smoother power delivery over a broader
rev range, with increased fuel economy and
lower CO2 emissions.
Key SIDI engine features include:
– More precisely controlled fuel delivery
– Increased cylinder air intake
– Increased cylinder compression ratio
– Aluminium engine block and cylinder heads
– Quad cam phasing with variable timing
on both inlet and outlet valves, and
– Optimised exhaust manifolds with
close-coupled catalytic converters.
3.0 Litre SIDI V6
The 3.0 litre SIDI Direct Injection is far
and away the most fuel-efficient V6 engine
in its class, yet is still powerful enough
to haul a 1.6 tonne tow load with ease.
Designed to run on unleaded petrol
or Bio-ethanol, it delivers effortless
V6 performance as standard on Omega
and Berlina models.
– 190kW# of power @ 6,700rpm
– 290Nm of torque @ 2,900rpm
– 6.0 Greenhouse rating and 4 stars from
greenvehicleguide.gov.au
3.6 Litre SIDI V6
With smoothly delivered, seemingly endless
reserves of free-flowing power, plus torque
to spare across the range, the 3.6 litre SIDI
variant is the engine of choice for the SV6,
Calais and Calais V-Series.
– 210kW# of power @ 6,400rpm
– 350Nm of torque @ 2,900rpm
Generation IV Alloy V8
Standard with SS and SS V-Series models,
and optional with the Calais V-Series,
this superb engine develops a phenomenal
270kW* of power and 530Nm* of torque
when teamed with the 6-speed manual
transmission, and 260kW*/517Nm*
with the 6-speed auto with Active Fuel
Management (AFM).
Either way, the Gen IV will reward you with
astonishing performance and exceptional
towing capabilities. With auto transmission
you also benefit at the bowser, thanks
to the engine’s Active Fuel Management
(AFM), which temporarily de-activates
four of the eight engine cylinders in certain
driving conditions when less engine power
is required. Cylinder de-activation and
re-activation take less than 20 milliseconds
and are virtually imperceptible.
Other key engine features include:
– Bio-ethanol compatibility
– Aluminium alloy construction, creating
a lightweight engine for a smoother ride.
– Less weight in the front end, allowing more
precise steering response, which translates
into more agile handling.
– A one-piece induction system made from
composite materials, for smooth airflow and
superior breathing.
Transmissions
6-Speed automatic with active select
This silky smooth transmission maintains
optimum engine economy across a wide
range of driving conditions, and offers the
added advantage of one touch switching
between automatic or manual gear shifting
via Active Select. It’s standard on the
Omega, SV6 (Sportwagon), Berlina,
Calais and Calais V-Series, and optional
on Commodore SV6 (Sedan only), SS and
SS V-Series.
6-Speed manual
Designed with a super smooth short throw
for more spirited driving, it has the ideal first
gear launch feel and lower cruising revs
in sixth. Standard on the SV6 (Sedan only),
SS and SS V-Series, it’s the obvious choice
for those who prefer a ‘hands-on’ approach.
